Completed in 2007, the Livraria da Vila, at Alameda Lorena, is an ingenious project by Isay Weinfeld that reimagined the original site, a narrow two-story house, into a functional three-story bookstore. Located in the trendy Jardins neighborhood, São Paulo, the project features a façade made of revolving bookcases that double as doors, and aperture cut outs on each floor that serve as bookshelves. The project received the 2008 Yellow Pencil Award – Environmental Design – Retail & Services – D&AD, London, UK, the 2008 SPARK! Award in San Francisco, US and an honorable mention at the 2008 World Architecture Festival in Barcelona, Spain.
